Earlier this month we welcomed 20 computer science and business management students from Wentworth Institute of Technology, Boston to our Oslo headquarters for a whistle-stop tour of machine learning at Memory.
The group were visiting Oslo alongside other European tech hubs as part of a three-month computer science study program – which for many students marks their first experience outside of the US.
Keen to secure hands-on learning experience, Professors Michael Mozill and Memo Ergezer singled out Memory as an ideal host for project-based, interdisciplinary learning – providing a practical business context for the Data Science Fundamentals and Software Engineering modules the students were taking.
Both professors – who moved to academia from industry – were taken by our AI-powered solutions for time tracking and project management, the mastery of which they consider to be central to business success. With both academics wrestling busy schedules themselves, our commitment to help people do more of the work that actually matters also resonated strongly.
After a brief introduction to our products, the group met with our engineers to learn what a career in machine learning can look like — from the technical skills and AI stack knowledge that employers look for, to the daily tasks and project organization they would encounter.
They were also invited under the hood of our business model to learn what it’s like to work in a fast-moving Norwegian start-up. For those with entrepreneurial ambitions, our foundation story proved to be particularly useful, offering valuable insight into what it can take to get an idea off the ground.
Following one more pit-stop to see Spacemaker AI, the students had some time to relax and explore the Norwegian capital – enjoying their visit despite it being one of the coldest and darkest times of the year.
Aside from being a brilliant life experience in itself, the study program directly contributes curricular points towards graduation. We are extremely humbled to be a part of that and wish every student well in the completion of their degrees — as well as the bright careers that undoubtedly lie ahead. There’s always a warm welcome waiting in Oslo! 🇳🇴
