Project tags, memories and report optimizations

Project tags, memories and report optimizations

New year, new releases! If 2021 is going to force us into another endless present, we might as well build as much cool stuff as we can each day. We’ve started the year by bringing greater flexibility to Tags. You can now customize tag settings across all of your projects, ensuring people log project work using the right tags with minimal tag management and admin. We’ve also given your memory titles, Report UI and individual capacity functionality a fresh lick of paint. 🎨 Check out all your January updates!

Customize tags across your projects

As part of our ongoing work to streamline tags, we’ve just released a smarter way to manage them across your project portfolio — from limiting which tags can be used, to minimizing admin effort when adding new ones.

Choosing “Select tags” will reveal a menu where you can select the tag lists you wish to apply or create a new one entirely.

Upon selecting “All tags”, you still have the option to set required tags that employees must use when logging their hours. While developing this feature we added a neat little extra: whenever you add a new tag list to your global Tags settings page, it will automatically appear for projects where “All tags” is selected. Sub-tags from these lists — including those you add in future — will also appear automatically. More automation, less admin! 🦾

To benefit from these changes, you may need to update your current tag lists. Due to the technical changes of tag management, a minority of you may also need to make changes to your workspace tags for reporting this month. You can find the steps you need to take for this update and a thorough walkthrough on how to structure tags.

Enjoy cleaner memory titles

Building on last month’s optimizations, we’ve continued to improve memories titles to provide you with a more detailed snapshot of activity within different apps. Google Chat conversations are now broken out in to individual memories, and you can now review separate Microsoft Outlook memories for time spent composing and replying to emails using the desktop Windows app.

We’ve also removed the “unread count” from WhatsApp and Slack memories to remove noise.

Finally, we’ve improved Figma, Slab and Pitch memory titles so that they use the name of the active web page you are working in.

A few small but mighty releases:

  • We’ve merged “Hour from” and “Hour to” columns in the Report export dropdown to a much simpler single “Hour timestamp” option.
  • We’ve jazzed up the design for hours and rows in Timesheet and Report tables for cleaner data presentation.
  • Updating individual capacity will now apply from the start of your current week to ensure historic values aren’t overridden.
  • In addition to “Month” and “Week”, Employee users can now select a “Day”, “Year” or “Custom” timeframe for viewing their capacity from their individual user page. Admins, Managers and Team Leads can apply the same to view the capacity of other users, in accordance with the access permissions of their role.
